County Clerk Ann Grossi performs over 100 weddings for county residents during the course of each year.

Please refer to the important information below if you are interested in scheduling a wedding ceremony officiated by the Morris County Clerk.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to concerns over COVID-19, we are only able to allow the two required witnesses to attend the ceremony along with the couple to be married.

Planning the Wedding

Step 1.Reserve a Date

Wedding dates and times must be reserved in advance and are only available during regular business hours. Please call 973-285-6125 to schedule.

Step 2.Obtain the Marriage License

The marriage license should be obtained from the Registrar’s Office in the Morris County municipality where either applicant resides.

Marriage licenses will not be issued any sooner than 72 hours once the application has been submitted. The wedding license is only valid for 30 days from the date it is issued.

Step 3.Bring the Marriage License & Witness IDs to the Clerk's Office Prior to the Ceremony

PLEASE NOTE: The original marriage license and photocopies of both witnesses’ IDs must be brought to our office, or received in the mail, at least two days prior to the scheduled ceremony.

We are unable to amend the license once the witness information has been added, so please be sure they are both available to attend the scheduled ceremony. If there is any change, the license must be reissued and the wedding will be canceled.

Step 4.On the Day of the Wedding Ceremony

The two designated witnesses, with their identification, are required to appear with the couple to be married. Please arrive early and allow time for any issues getting to our office. There may be multiple weddings scheduled for the same day, so it’s important the wedding begins promptly.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to concerns over COVID-19, we are only able to allow the two witnesses to attend the ceremony along with the couple to be married. Should any additional guests attend, the ceremony will not be performed.

Step 5.After the Wedding Ceremony

After the ceremony, the marriage license will then be filed with the Morristown Registrar of Vital Statistics. In order to obtain a copy of your Marriage Certificate, please contact their office at 973-292-6705 or visit their website.
