County Clerk Ann Grossi performs over 100 weddings for county residents during the course of each year. Wedding dates and times must be reserved in advance and are only available during regular business hours. 

Once the date is reserved, a marriage license should be obtained from the Registrar’s Office in the Morris County municipality where either applicant resides.

Marriage licenses will not be issued any sooner than 72 hours after the application has been submitted. Once it is picked up, the wedding license is only valid for 30 days.

The wedding license and copies of both witnesses’ IDs must then either be brought to our office or received in the mail at least two days prior to the scheduled ceremony.

On the day of the wedding, the two designated witnesses, with identification, are required to appear with the couple to be married. We are unable to amend the license once the witness information has been added, so please be sure they are both available to attend the scheduled ceremony. If there is any change, the license must be reissued and the wedding will be cancelled.

Due to concerns over COVID-19, please understand that we are only able to allow the two witnesses to attend the ceremony along with the couple to be married.

Please have everyone arrive early and allow time for any issues getting to our office. There may be multiple weddings scheduled for the same day, so it’s important the wedding begins promptly.

After the ceremony, the license will then be filed with the Registrar of Vital Statistics in Morristown. In order to obtain the Marriage Certificate, please contact their office at 973-292-6638 or visit their website.
