Delays in Passport Processing & Mailing

The U.S. Department of State has issued a recent notice that routine services can take 8 to 11 weeks from the day an application is submitted at an acceptance facility or renewed through the mail. Expedited service can take 5 to 7 weeks. Processing times now begin the day the application is received at a passport agency or center, not on the day the customer applied for a passport at an acceptance facility. For faster mailing times, customers may opt to pay for 1-2 day delivery service for applications mailed to Passport Services and for the mailing of a new passport.

Customers who have a life or death emergency or urgent travel within 3 business days may visit travel.state.gov or call National Passport Services directly at 1-877-487-2778 for additional information.

NJ REAL ID to be Required for Domestic Travel Starting May 7, 2025

The Department of Homeland Security has issued an extension that will allow travelers to continue using their New Jersey issued driver’s licenses and non-driver identification cards to board domestic flights until May 7, 2025.

Starting May 7, 2025, all travelers must have a REAL ID compliant driver license or ID to fly within the United States, unless they use a U.S. passport or another federally approved form of identification.

Passport and Visa Photos Now Available for Over 50 Foreign Countries

Morris County Clerk Ann F. Grossi is excited to announce that our Passport Department has expanded its service to provide photos for passports and visas from over 50 countries outside of the United States.

Although we only process applications for United States passports, our photo system uses software that meets the regulations required by these countries. The cost for the foreign passport or visa photo is $15.00, just like that charged for the U.S. passport photos. Check to see if your country is on the list.(PDF, 662KB)
